On January 18th, 2007 Josh Buck, IWU grad and pastor, was in a swimming accident while on vacation in Mexico. The accident was considered a near drowning. In the process, Josh fractured his neck, damaged his spinal cord and had to undergo emergency surgery following his airlift to a Miami hospital. He was unable to breathe on his own, intubated and in an induced coma. Much more quickly than expected, Josh was taken off the ventilator, breathing on his own and moved from ICU to a neuro unit. Josh was once again airlifted, this time home to Grand Rapids, where he was a patient at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital for three months. Currently, Josh works to regain movement and function of his body. This situation comes on the heels of the death of the Buck's youngest daughter, Ava Nicole. Josh is now back speaking and encouraging people to live a life committed to Christ regardless of what tragedy or struggle might be in their future.
